The name of the four ethnic groups parallel the names of the province's district, i.e. : Bolaang Mongondow, Gorontalo, Sangihe Talaud and Minahasa. Eventough "Bahasa Indonesia" is spoken as National Language, in practice people of the tribes inhabiting this region still recognize and identity with local groups and sub groups, distinguished mainly by language or dialect according to their background as follows : A.
